Hey everyone! This week is our last week of the quarter, and an extremely busy one for SEAOC. We start this Wednesday afternoon with a tour of Area 52. Those of you attending should have already received an email from me over the weekend. Remember to arrive at 3:15 (I assume we'll meet near the entrance between math and science and agriculture). This Thursday we will also be having a meeting. Michelle Kam-Biron, SE, Senior Technical Director at WoodWorks, and Grace S. Kang, SE, Principal at Forell/Elsesser Engineers, Inc will be presenting "Structural Engineering from Two Perspectives." The structural engineering profession has facets which include the private, public, industry, and academic sectors. Two perspectives will be illustrated with case studies, and the importance of being involved in the profession beyond the office environment will also be discussed. This is going to be an excellent presentation from two highly accomplished structural engineers and we are lucky to have them. Woodworks is also graciously sponsoring our lunch, so expect something new this week. And finally, but most certainly not least, this Friday evening is our End of the Quarter Party (EOTQP) at Slo Brew downtown. We have the lounge reserved beginning at 6:30, and we hope to have food coming out by 7. As always, this is a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE event. We only budget for about 65 dinners, so plan to arrive early if you want a spot. You can always order food yourself if you can't make it at that time, but you'll have to foot your own bill. I want to remind everyone that this event is open to ALL SEAOC MEMBERS regardless of year, so don't be afraid to come out even if you're under 21 (our reservation lasts until 10pm, at which time anyone under the age of 21 will have to leave.) I hope to see most of you there! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I've had a great quarter working with all of you and I've got a lot of big plans for when we get back from the break! Respectfully, Laura Rice Add Comment SEAOC Thanksgiving! 11/15/2011
Hey SEAOC! This week is our annual Thanksgiving feast! Be sure to come to HILTI LAB (B-LAB) on Thursday at 11 am to get some delicious turkey diner with the fixings (of course there will also be vegetarian options). We'll then be sending you off to A-lab to enjoy. There is no speaker this week, so stop by for food and a chance to relax with friends. This is a SEAOC event, and due to its popularity we will be checking membership at the door to ensure that all members get their fair share of the food. I'd also like to let everyone know that on Wednesday, November 30th SEAOC members have a chance to tour the math and science building that is currently being built on campus. The tour will start around 3:15, so be prompt. As the site is active, we cannot have the entire membership attend at once. Please email me directly at larice@calpoly.edu if you would like to attend the tour. We will be taking up to 30 students, with priority given to upperclassmen first. You must email me back by this Friday, November 18th at 5pm if you are interested. See you all Thursday, be sure to bring an appetite! Laura No Meeting This Week 11/09/2011
Hey SEAOCers! I'm sad to say that this week there will be NO MEETING as many of us will be in SF for the SEAOC fall trip. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. See you all on the 17th for SEAOC Thanksgiving! Laura SEAOC activity this week! 10/19/2011
Hey SEAOCers! This week we are taking a break to do an activity!! We'll be having a little friendly competition, so come with your game face on ready to work. We'll announce the challenge at the beginning of the meeting, so get there as close to 11:10 as you can to use the full time. As always, there will also be delicious food served. If you still haven't found the time to sign up and bring your money, we'll be accepting them both this week so you can participate. Please be sure to give your applications and payments directly to myself or another officer (we'll clarify who they are at the beginning.) That's all I've got this week, see you all Thursday in A-lab at 11! Laura Big/Little List 10/19/2011

Hey SEAOCers! This week Caelen Ball and Kim Bowen will be speaking on behalf of SESH, Structural Engineering Students for Haiti. They'll be going over the trip they planned last year to Haiti and the projects they worked on there so come by for sandwiches and a great talk. Also, the SEAOC membership forms are now in the main ARCE office so stop by and pick them up if you weren't able to make last weeks meeting. And finally, if you haven't already signed up to be a big we'll be briefly talking about the program at the beginning of this weeks meeting and sending around a sign up form.
